Concrete wonder makes 1st sale and attracts € 1,5 mio
One of Denmark's most promising cleantech companies Abeo A/S has obtained an investment of 1,5 million € from the venture fund SEED Capital. At the same time they have achieved a key milestone in selling their concrete slabs for a 4500 m2 building at DTU. Thus, in one year the company has moved from being a newly founded development company for new concrete technology to having a tangible product with proof of sale.
The short term economic platform for Abeo has been secured after they raised 11 million in venture capital from the venture fund SEED Capital. The money will be used for upscaling the business including the hire of two new employees.
Abeo's first order for its unique concrete element is the construction of a 4500 m2 teaching building at DTU. Building 324, it will be called, and the slabs will be used for 400 m2 of indoor walkways that will connect six separate building elements on two floors. The building constructed by Pihl and Son is expected to be completed in spring 2012.
Abeo's so called SL-Slabs are constructed of stone blocks of lightweight concrete, which can be reinforced in both angles. Plain concrete is poured on the lightweight concrete, which distributes the pressure on the structure. Depending on the application the structure will be between 4 and 44 percent lighter than hollow core slabs and with better sound insulation and fire resistance. Also the slabs can provide spans of up to 20 meters - 75 percent longer than hollow core slabs.
Alexander Wulff, Founder, Abeo: "The main reason that we already one year into launch have a finished and tested product and the first order in hand has undoubtedly been the quality collaboration between the technical inventor and non-technical business people. The collaboration has provided us with a far better product than competing products, while providing significant cost savings."
Steen Halbye, Partner, SEED Capital: "To gain access to the market for concrete is like changing course on a large tankship. The potential earnings are however significant if succeessful. It requires a lot of patience, hard work and more patience. Abeo have achieved a lot in a short time, and we are confident that with the first sale and additional capital they have gained access to the bridge."
