Jurag Separation A/S establish licensing agreement with Chr. Hansen A/S
The agreement with Chr. Hansen, a leading manufacturer of food ingredients, demonstrates commercial viability of Jurag Separations unique separation system and confirms SEED Capitals strategy in regards to the technology's attractiveness for scalable and productive solutions in industrial settings.
"We see this as a revolution within the fermentation technology, and we expect to expand, develop and boost our production of cultures and at the same time engage in unique product development of products that could reach the global consumers in 3-5 years," explains Knud Vindfeldt, Executive Vice President, Cultures & Enzymes, Chr. Hansen.
With the joint venture Chr. Hansen obtain access to Jurag Separations patented REED filtration technology, which offers advanced electro-membrane solutions for separation of ionic species directly from fermentation broth as well a from a variety of other complex process streams. As improving the yields of fermentations always presents a challenge in many industries Jurag Separation's REED technology can provide a compelling solution. Consequently, the REED technology is now being assessed for a number of fermentation applications within the pharmaceutical, biotech as well as food ingredient industry.
In a range of ongoing fermentation projects, the REED technology has been verified as a strong and unique separation process, which has improved the performance of these applications with significant increase in production yields.
Chr. Hansen is the leading global manufacturer of food ingredients products including starter cultures for the dairy industry. The licensing agreement with Chr. Hansen sends a clear signal to other industries in terms of sustainability of the REED technology.
Two PhDs, Arvid Garde and Jens-Ulrik Rype from DTU (Danish Technical University), founded Jurag Separation in 2001 with initial venture capital funding from DTU Innovation and Vækstfonden at later stage. Within the last couple of years, Jurag Separation has consolidated its technology, been further funded by SEED Capital and now targets customers with industrial potential for the further growth.
