Observe Medical A/S has completed the first version of their urine monitoring device for the hospital sector – the Sippi. . Now they are finishing their clinical trials and will go to market in 2012.

Urine output is one of the vital indicators used in treatment of patients after their surgery and during intensive care at ICU. The urinary output is a reflection of kidney function and fluid balance, and it is therefore vital to monitor as the treatment progresses. Currently measuring is done manually, but with Sippi this process can be highly optimized.

Sippi is a digital monitor of patient urine production far superior to the current mechanical systems that are error prone, work intensive, and not very exact. With Sippi physicians can get frequent, precise and early warnings to prevent negative fluid balance and renal failure. In addition, it is a time and cost efficient way of monitoring urinary output, due to the automatic emptying mechanism, which will free up time for primary care at a facility.

Since its inception in 2009 Observe Medical has moved from concept to product at a rapid pace. 2012 will be used on clinical trials at up to 10 different hospitals. Production and commercial launch will begin with the Nordics and Germany. Together with the current investor group SEED Capital is investing € 1.3 mio. in taking Observe Medical to this next stage.
